Thank you for your interest in becoming a hospice volunteer! Our agency is a fascinating place where volunteers are regarded as an integral part of the health care team. Joining our dedicated team of volunteers can be a richly rewarding experience for you. With a sincere desire to help others, a caring spirit, and some time, you can be a valuable hospice volunteer. Your gift of self will help support people who are experiencing their end-of-life journeys and you’ll help their families as well. There are many volunteer job categories… nearly something for everyone that would match your interests, talents, and time availability.
• Patient Support: Patient Support Volunteers provide support and companionship for patients and their caregivers. The volunteer may stay with the patient to allow the caregiver to rest or leave home for specific periods of time. The volunteer may also assist with errands, transport patient/family to important appointments, help with light homemaking tasks or repairs, and maintain phone contact.
• Fundraising: Fundraising volunteers help assist with agency fundraising events and projects such as the Annual Celebrity Waiter Dinner & Auction, rummage sales, Memorial Garden, and the Funnel Cake Stand.
• Special Projects: Special Projects Volunteers help with crafts and/or baking for hospice patients and their families.
• Bereavement: Bereavement volunteers provide support in conjunction with the Family Support Coordinator to family members suffering the loss of a loved one. Such support may include follow-up visits to the home, outings of mutual interest, correspondence such as notes and telephone calls. They also assist with the annual Memorial Service, Memorial Quilt, bereavement workshops and other meetings open to the public.
